| | Christmas tree, real or artificial? | | will you have a real tree or an artificial tree this year for Christmas? when i was growing up we always had an artificial one. now every year, we go to the tree farm, pick out a tree and cut it down and bring it home. there is nothing better than a fresh cut pine or fir tree. they smell just wonderful. | |
| | Christmas Trees | | Do you put up an artificial tree or a real tree for Christmas? If it is a real tree, do you get it pre-cut or do you go to a farm or the woods to cut your own tree? Some people even buy the ones with the roots still on it and re plant it after the holiday.
I remember going to a tree farm when I was a kid and my Dad cutting our tree down. When my brothers got older, they were handed the saw with great pride. I was handed the saw too with pride, but being the youngest of 6 and a girl it took many years for it to be my turn. We are all grown up and our parents are no longer with us, but some of us have carried that tradition on.
I am much older now and my husband and I get a pre-cut tree, which we usually buy from the boy scouts tree lot in town. We are very choosey when it comes time for getting the "perfect tree". My husband loves to find the biggest one he can, I like to find the one with the best shape, stiff branches to hold all the ornaments and one that will fit in front of the picture window and not flow too far into the living area. Sometimes I have to talk him out of the biggest one and sometimes I lose that talk. We have a lot of fun though.
| | Do you buy a live Christmas tree or a cut one? | | Obviously, not everyone has a Christmas tree because they don't celebrate Christmas. This discussion is for those who do.When you buy a tree, do you prefer the cut ones? If so, do you buy one already cut or do you go to a tree farm where you cut your own?Have you or would you consider buying a live tree? I'm thinking of doing that this year. We have the room and I have already planted several evergreens for privacy. We live in what I call a "fishbowl" because the shared private road we live on goes right through our property and we really have no privacy. So, that's why I'm thinking of a live tree this year. I will plant it after Christmas in a spot where it will give us some privacy. I like the idea, actually, for more than just the fact that it will provide us privacy; I like it because trees are living things and it's a shame to cut a tree just to use for a few weeks. What are you doing this year and what is your reason for it? | |
| | How much do Christmas trees cost in your area? | | And how tall was your tree?I know we WAY overpaid this year but I was tired of crappy, sapping trees so we went to a really nice tree farm. They served hot cocoa and cider and had this bustling tree business going. They had wagon rides out to the tree farm, it was really cute. We paid $85.00 and our tree was about 8 1/2 feet tall. That's about $30 more than we usually pay but I have to tell you, I'd go back next year. We had a much better experience than at one of those roadside stands and we got a beautiful tree. | |
| | Tradition Tradition | | do you have any*fun* traditions your family keeps during this time of the year?
Today starts Advent and it is my birthday. We have kept a tradition of going out and cutting down our Christmas Tree on my birthday, it is something fun the kids look forward to every year. It is getting less fun for my poor beloved husband though who's body aches terrible. Back in the early years of our marriage we lived in upstate NY, in the snow belt. It was inevitable that the snow would be falling during our trek through the woods. It was always such a lovely thing! DH would lay in the snow sawing away at the base of the perfect tree, the air crisp and fresh, the snow tickling our noses.... we looked forward to the thermos of hot cocoa after we got the tree hauled down to the car and loaded on top snug and safe....
later on we moved to the southwest, here there was rarely any sort of snow on the ground especially in early December, but the wind whipped wildly and it was cold... we had to go to a tree farm to choose our tree, and dh would lay on the pine needled earth and saw away... when he was done cutting the tree down the kids would pile up on top of it for a Tree ride (dh dragging it from...
| | Desperately Seeking Candy, Port Huron, Michigan | | Hello, my daughter would very much like to see her sister again. She has not seen her in 10 years. She is not my daughter, but my ex's daughter. She is, however, the blood sister of my daughter (half sister) and she misses her so much and so do I. We found out she was living in the Port Huron, Michigan area. She lived with an abusive married man named Guy Vargis who has a wife in the hospital from injuries he caused her. She has a daughter. She worked at a pet store, a burger king, and may possibly still be working at a super kmart. She lives near Ruby Tree Farm. Her name is Candy, not sure what last name she is using, could be French or Rial or something else. She is 24 years old. Her middle name is Lynn. Her d.o.b. is 07-28-82. Please help reunite these sisters! | |
| | Warning! Bats in Christmas Trees! | | On the news last night was a story about a lady who went to a Christmas Tree farm. She bought a tree and took it home. She had it set up and was decorating it. While she was putting the lights on she thought the tree had poked her. When she looked at her arm she noticed it was a bite mark. Then she saw the bat. Upon investigation, they found out that this Christmas Tree farm uses bats to eat the insects from the tree. They don't use pesticides. Seems like a good idea but I think they need to inspect the trees better before sending them home with someone. I would freak if I found a bat in the Christmas tree. | |
| | Christmas traditions | | I have three children - 21, 17 aand 7 and every year we go to a Christmas tree farm the weekend after Thanksgiving. It's usually quite cold, so we're bundled in layers, and walk through the lines of trees until we all agree that we've found the perfect one. With the manual saw, we try to cut the tree ourselves, but always end up walking back to the farm house and requesting assistance. We bring the cut tree to the farm house where it's secured and tied to the roof of our car and then head to the nearest fast food place that serves hot chocolate. We sing Carols and laugh the entire time - and it's probably one of the best days of the holiday season! What do you enjoy doing? | |
