| 1834 planter | | I took this picture of a very old planter outside this historical log cabin. As one who loves to garden, I'd love to have a planter like this, after all it lasts for years and years unlike the ones they make today..I think colorful flowers with some kind of vine plant will look awesome in this. What kind of plant would you add to this if you had one? | |
| | | I bought a Topsy Turvy planter & a big tomato plant - do you think it will work? | | Hi everyone! Yesterday I broke down and purchased something that I have been wanting to purchase for some time now. I got aTopsy Turvy planter and I got a nice sized tomato planter. I planted it last night and here is a picture of my newly planted addition to my garden.[em]cool[/em]I hope I did it right. I think I didn't shove it up in the soil as much as I should have, but I guess we will see now.[em]surrender[/em]Has anyone else here on myLot ever used theTopsy Turvy before? If you did, how did it work for you? I am hoping that this will work for me. One time, long ago, I tried to grow tomatoes the traditional way and they ended up getting those nasty green worms on them and also I think the leaves dried up. I am hoping that I don't get any worms as these tomatoes will be up in the air.Wish me luck and I'll keep you updated as the plant starts to grow tomatoes. I wonder how often I will need to water this. I have it inMiracle Gro soil right now.Have a nice day and happy myLotting!![em]thumbup[/em] | |

| I'm Nuts about My New AeroGarden Planter | | This is an item I first saw on an ad here on myLot, and although it took a while for me to actually make up my mind to buy it, I knew from the first glance I had to get one eventually. Well, we like it so much we have already ordered a second one and I have been going nuts taking photos and bragging it up on my blog. The AeroGarden by AeroGrow is a computerized hydroponic garden appliance of sorts, but instead of using water in place of dirt, the device mists the roots which live in air out of site inside the base of the unit. It looks very much like a lamp and does indeed have very bright grow lights, which fortunately shut themselves off at night or we would not be able to sleep.
We haven't had it long enough to give a reliable review, but I can say that the first seeds sprouted and little green leaves were visible the very next day, and that the photo below shows seedlings less than 6 days old. What is your impression of this sort of toy? Do you think I will really be able to grow cucumbers and tomatoes in my kitchen? How about eggplants? I want to put roses in one of them!
Any other suggestions?
| | Has anyone tried using planter boxes for flowers? | | This is the first time I've tried these. They aren't hooked onto my porch railing yet. My ground didn't work too well for flowers last year, so I figured I'd try these. They have a coconut lining. I just wondered what the best way is to go about planting flowers in these. I'm not much of a green thumb[em]lol[/em]and could use some assistance. The only kind of flower I've been able to get to grow in my ground is sunflowers...I bought a ton of different flower seeds, potting soil and have all the equipment, just need a little help to get started, Thanks[em]happy[/em] | |
| | Using an old half whiskey barrel as a planter | | I just bought a half whiskey barrel that I'll be using as an outdoor planter. I was wondering about 2 things:1. Do you think it is a good idea to drill a few drainage holes in the bottom? I am leaning toward yes on this one.2. Would it be a good idea to put some stones/rocks in the bottom for drainage?I am also considering putting down some white stone underneath were the planter will go.han 6 days old. What is your impression of this sort of toy? Do you think I will really be able to grow cucumbers and tomatoes in my kitchen? How about eggplants? I want to put roses in one of them!
Any other suggestions?

| | | Trees to bear planter names | | ON Tree-Planting Day, March 12, residents will be given the opportunity to name trees after themselves. Two parks in Nanshan District published a notice in a community newspaper Sunday inviting people to register for tree-planting activities, which will allow those planting trees to have their names hung on the trees, on the condition that they pay for the saplings.“We have received scores of inquiries days ago though the registration is supposed to begin today as disclosed in the notice,” a lady surnamed Liang with Zhongshan Park, one of the participating parks, said. | |
